Types of Leave in India

Indian labour law recognises several leave types: Casual Leave (CL), Sick Leave (SL), Earned/Annual Leave (EL/PL), Maternity Leave, Paternity Leave, and Optional/Festival Holidays. Each has different accrual, eligibility, and encashment rules.

Leave Carry-Forward Rules

Most companies allow unused Earned Leave to be carried forward to the next year (up to a limit). Casual and Sick Leave typically lapse at year-end. Your leave policy should clearly state these rules.
